Unlike many guides and fly anglers, Drew didn't grow up in a fly fishing, or fishing for that matter, family. He was too young to get the craze from the early nineties movie, River Runs Through It, though it didn't take him long to catch the bug on his own. While attending the University of Iowa, he started his fly fishing career on the small midwestern spring creeks and never looked back. Spending more days on the water than in class, Drew decided on becoming a full time professional fly fishing guide and attended the Montana Fly Fishing Guide School.
A few years later, thousands of hours on the water, and a degree in photography and graphic design has landed Drew neck deep in the guiding profession. Starting his career at the Driftless Angler Fly Shop in Viroqua, Wisconsin has led to owning two boats and an obsession that has carried him all over the world pursuing fish with a fly rod. He has guided the famed Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, Colorado, and Gunnison Rivers in the Rocky State as well as the Florida Keys and Everglades. Drew now guides year round in North Carolina and Tennesee, and is based out of Asheville, North Carolina. He has fished Ireland, Argentina, Bolivia, Bali and all over the United States but still prefers his areas of expertise over them all.
Drew strives to give his anglers the best day possible on the water. Everyday he is committed to putting them on fish, even though he believes it is not all about catching or numbers, but more about getting out and experiencing nature at it's finest. It is tough to find another guide who puts more hours in the boat towards learning everything there is to know about his quarry. Drew throughly enjoys searching to find new water but still knows he has not learned everything about the water he already fishes. As long as the weather allows, you can bet he'll be out, whether by himself or with anglers, looking for fish to throw a fly at.
Drew is a fully licensed and insured United States Coast Guard Captain. He is an independent guide living in Asheville, North Carolina where he operates and owns his own boats and guide service, Fly Inspired. Drew rows both a drift boat as well as a raft, allowing him to fish a multitude of rivers for trout, smallmouth bass, muskie, and stripers. He works out of a 2010 Hyde Pro Series drift boat and a 2012 Aire Super Puma raft.
